How to Make This Wire Wrapped Ring with a Faceted Stone

Create a sparkly statement piece with this easy to follow ring tutorial!

There’s something so satisfying about finishing a ring you made with your own two hands. It’s tiny but powerful. Like a little badge of creativity you get to wear!

In this tutorial, I’ll walk you through how to make a beautiful wire wrapped ring featuring a 5mm or 6mm faceted stone. And yes, you can absolutely play around with different wire shapes, weaves, or stones to make it your own!

Tools & Materials You’ll Need

  • (x4) pieces of 20g square or round wire (dead-soft)
Measure the ring size on a mandrel, then add 6” (16 cm) for the stone

  • 5 feet or 1.5m of 28g round wire (dead-soft)

  • Faceted stone, 5mm or 6mm (round or square) *I get mine from Casdans!

  • Chain nose pliers

  • Round nose pliers

  • Flush cutters

  • Ring mandrel

  • Ruler

  • Sharpie

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Cut Your Base Wires
Cut four equal lengths of your 20g wire, based on the size of the ring you want to make. (The circumference of the ring band + 6" or 16cm)

  2. Weave the Band
Use your 28g wire to weave the Modified Soumak weave pattern between the four base wires. (Feel free to get creative with your favorite weave!)

  3. Shape the Ring
When you’re done weaving, position the wires in an “I” shape and wrap the band around the mandrel until both ends meet.

  4. Secure the Ends
Weave the ends together to lock in the shape of the ring band.

  5. Add the Stone
Center your faceted stone and bring the wires over the top to secure it in place.

  6. Create Decorative Loops
Round the wires over top of the stone and then “tie” the remaining wire ends to create graceful looped shapes on either side of the stone.

  7. Tuck Everything In
Carefully tuck any loose wire ends under the ring band so nothing snags or pokes.

And that’s it—your custom wire wrapped ring is ready to wear or gift!
